Voilà

The piece centers around a woman who experiences many different relationships, each leaving her more broken than the last (whether it’s the cheater, the ‘Mr. Nice Guy,’ or an emotionally controlling partner). With each person who chooses to leave her, she loses a piece of herself. She loses trust, faith in her own worth, the ability to be open, and even the courage to love. She gradually stops taking emotional risks and shuts herself off from others, spiraling downward until she hits rock bottom. At this point, she is utterly exhausted, both physically and emotionally, with no energy to rebuild the shattered parts of herself. She feels like she’s given up.

She stumbles into the arms of her best love. Her walls are high, her trust is broken, yet this man chooses NOT to leave. He chooses to stay, to offer her the comfort and safety she’s been searching for. With him, she finds a place to heal, where she can open up, slowly allowing herself to trust again. Together, they gently piece her back together. She learns to find herself again, not by becoming someone new, but by reconnecting to who she truly is, with his love as a healing force.

This piece is a testament to the power of love, vulnerability, and the quiet strength it takes to rebuild when life has torn you apart.

We’ve Emerged 🥀

This piece was deeply emotional, resonating not only within me but also with the dancers who brought it to life. It was born from my own and the dancers personal experiences, memories, and raw emotions tied to relationships and friendships. I opened the floor to create a safe and open space for conversation. By sharing my own vulnerabilities, I encouraged the group to do the same, leading to meaningful, heartfelt discussions.

Throughout our process, we repeatedly asked questions like: “What happens when someone chooses to leave you?” “How did they leave you?” “Why did they leave you?” “How do we show that through dance?” Together, as a cast, we explored vulnerability and dove into our deepest experiences regarding relationships, friendships, family, and even mentors.

As the story began to unfold, I then asked: “What does it feel like when we finally find that truest, most authentic sense of safety and comfort with another person?”

This piece is a testament to the power of love, vulnerability, and the quiet strength it takes to rebuild when life has torn you apart.

I am beyond proud and grateful for the hard work and dedication these dancers have put into the story, the characters, and each other! So thankful ❤️
